FLEXIBLE EDUCATION
At the University of Fairfax, students progress through their programs in groups or cohorts. The cohort model is designed to meet the special needs of adult learners. Smaller groups provide opportunities for collaborative learning and support, as well as more personalized instruction and advising. In addition, all courses are offered in a "blended" format that utilizes synchronous and asynchronous instruction, incorporating both online and optional face-to-face delivery. Project-driven curricula are delivered through web based technology (eCollege) which permits access to course content from any location
In addition, the eCollege platform facilitates an interactive environment which enables adult learners to communicate with faculty and fellow students at times that fit their busy schedules and enables them to access coursework whenever convenient. Students are required to participate by posting to asynchronous threaded discussions and by attending synchronous class sessions (syncSessions™) in person or via conference call as scheduled. In addition, students are encouraged to participate each week in online chat room sessions facilitated by faculty. The academic year consists of six eight-week terms.
